Captain's Dinner, Harbor restaurant in Greetsiel, Krummhörn, Germany
Captain's Dinner is a restaurant on the harbor of Greetsiel, a small fishing village in the Krummhörn district of northern Germany. It occupies two connected buildings and offers both indoor seating and an outdoor terrace facing the water.
The restaurant opened in 2007 and from the start built ties with North Sea fishing boats docking in the harbor. That relationship with local fishers has shaped what ends up on the menu ever since.
The menu reflects the farming landscape around Greetsiel, with meat sourced from local farms raising Galloway cattle and Bentheimer pigs, both breeds native to northern Germany. The fish on the plate often comes straight from boats docked just outside.
The restaurant is open every day except Wednesdays, and booking ahead is a good idea, especially if you want a spot on the outdoor terrace. It sits right on the harbor, making it easy to reach on foot from anywhere in the village.
North Sea lobster appears on the menu only from September through the end of June, following the natural rhythm of its availability. Outside that window, the restaurant simply does not serve it, which means the season shapes what you find on the plate.
