日向洋食 hinata, Japanese restaurant in Renyong Village, Taiwan.
日向洋食 hinata is a Japanese yoshoku restaurant in Renyong Village, in northern Taiwan. It serves Western-inspired dishes reinterpreted in a Japanese style, in a spare dining room with few tables and a simple layout.
The restaurant opened in July 2020, bringing the yoshoku tradition to a village where that style of cooking had little presence before. It has since built a following among locals and visitors looking for Japanese-style home cooking in the area.
日向洋食 hinata follows a Japanese cooking tradition called "yoshoku", which refers to Western dishes that arrived in Japan in the 19th century and were gradually transformed into something distinctly local. Dishes like omurice or hamburger steak are served here in a form that feels neither fully Western nor fully Japanese, but something in between.
The restaurant has very few seats, so booking ahead is strongly recommended, especially on weekends. The lunch service tends to fill up first, so an evening visit may leave more flexibility.
The restaurant works with Noria, a California winery that produces wines designed to match the flavors of yoshoku cooking. That kind of focused wine pairing for this style of cuisine is rare to find in Taiwan.
