Shilin Shennong Temple

Shilin Shennong Temple is a Chinese place of worship in Shilin District featuring traditional architecture with ornate carvings and painted scenes of farming throughout its walls and beams. The decorative elements reveal how craftsmanship and religious purpose combine within the building's design.

The temple was established in 1741 following a flood that destroyed an earlier shrine, and was rebuilt by immigrants from Zhangzhou. In the 1970s it gained new reinforced concrete structures that reshaped its overall form.

The temple honors Shennong Dadi, the Divine Farmer, and shows how local people maintain a connection to agricultural traditions through daily worship. Visitors can observe the incense offerings and prayers that express gratitude for good harvests.

The temple sits within walking distance of Shilin Station on the Taipei Metro system, making it convenient to reach by public transport. Visitors should wear comfortable shoes and move respectfully through the sacred spaces inside.

The temple was originally known by a different name, Zhilan, before it became dedicated to the Divine Farmer and transformed into a popular local pilgrimage site. This shift shows how the building's purpose evolved over time.
