Luther 1517 - Wittenberg 360 °

Luther 1517 - Wittenberg 360 °, Panoramic museum in Lutherstadt Wittenberg, Germany

Luther 1517 is a circular panorama museum with a 360-degree wraparound painting that stands 15 meters tall and stretches 75 meters around its perimeter, depicting Wittenberg in the early 1500s. Visitors stand on a central platform inside to view the massive artwork from all angles and watch projected scenes unfold across the painted canvas.

The panorama depicts Wittenberg at the moment of Martin Luther's 95 theses in 1517, a turning point in European religious history. The artwork focuses on capturing this pivotal moment to show what daily life looked like in the city just before this major religious shift began.

Artist Yadegar Asisi merges traditional panorama painting with modern projection to show how people lived their daily lives in 16th-century Wittenberg. The artwork captures religious customs, market scenes, and social interactions from that era.

Plan to spend time moving around the central platform to view the panorama from different angles and gain a complete sense of the surroundings depicted. Multimedia guides available in several languages help explain the various scenes and details of the installation, making it easier to understand the period being portrayed.

The panorama incorporates a shifting day-night cycle using changing light effects to transform how the scene appears throughout your visit. This dynamic lighting technique creates different moods and reveals how the city would have looked at various times of day.
