Hotel Paso Del Norte, Autograph Collection
Hotel Paso Del Norte is a historic property with over 350 rooms and suites located in downtown El Paso. Sitting less than one mile from the Mexican border, it features a grand lobby with a large stained glass dome and combines classical architecture with contemporary comforts.
The building opened in 1912 on Thanksgiving Day, designed by architect Henry Trost in Chicago and Beaux-Arts styles. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1979 and reopened in 2020 after major renovations as part of the Autograph Collection brand.
The hotel's name references a Spanish mountain pass that defines the region, reflecting El Paso's location at the border. Walking around the area, you hear Spanish and English spoken equally, showing the diverse community that uses the city.
The hotel is centrally located and easily accessible from El Paso airports and major transportation hubs, with convenient access to shops and restaurants nearby. The location offers simple walking access to theaters and parks, making it easy to explore the city on foot.
During the Mexican Revolution around 1914, people used the hotel's roof terraces to watch fighting between soldiers and revolutionaries in the streets below. This story shows how the building was caught up in major moments of local history.
