Amber Museum, Amber exhibition in Jarosławiec, Poland
The Amber Museum in Jarosławiec presents three main sections covering how amber forms naturally, extraction techniques used historically and today, and the preserved organisms trapped inside fossilized resin. The displays show different amber types and qualities found along the Baltic coast.
Baltic amber formed millions of years ago when extensive forests covered northern Europe and their resinous trees contributed to large deposits. Over time, geological processes and coastal movement brought these deposits to the locations where they are now mined.
Local craftspeople demonstrate how raw amber is transformed into jewelry and decorative objects using traditional Baltic techniques passed down through generations. Visitors can observe these time-honored methods still practiced in the region today.
The museum is open daily with extended hours during summer months from July through August. Plan to spend several hours exploring all three sections, and wear comfortable shoes as you move between different display areas.
The displays feature tiny insects and plant fragments trapped in amber millions of years ago that remain perfectly preserved to this day. These fossilized inclusions allow visitors a glimpse into ancient life that existed long before modern times.
