National Museum of Natural Science

The National Museum of Natural Science is a national museum in Dangou Village, Taiwan, covering Earth sciences, life sciences, human cultures, and technological development. The spaces spread across several buildings and an outdoor area with living plant collections, forming together a large site in northern Taichung.

The museum opened its doors in the 1980s as Taiwan's first national science museum and expanded its facilities gradually, adding a botanical garden established in the early 1990s. Over the decades, more exhibition halls and science spaces were added to promote research and education.

The botanical garden holds living plant species from Taiwan, arranged by ecological zones to show how flora adapts to different elevations and climates. Visitors walk through recreated habitats, from lowland forests to mountain vegetation, experiencing the diversity of the island on a single trail.

The site is well connected by public transport, including city buses from central Taichung and several bike-sharing stations nearby. Plan several hours to explore the indoor areas and the outdoor garden thoroughly, especially if you are interested in plants and science displays.

The exhibition on Chinese medicine displays medical herbs, diagnostic tools, and historical healing methods in a recreated traditional pharmacy room. Visitors see lifelike models and original objects that convey the practical application of ancient healing arts, not only their theoretical foundations.
