Palisades Tahoe
Palisades Tahoe is a mountain resort in Placer County spanning six major peaks with over 177 trails for skiers of all levels. The facility features numerous lifts including the only funitel in the US, which moves hundreds of skiers up the mountain each hour.
The resort opened in 1949 and hosted the Winter Olympics in 1960, making it one of the few places in the US to hold the Winter Games. This event brought major development and established the location as an international destination.
The name Palisades Tahoe came from a 2021 rename meant to honor local Washoe tribes and move away from a name many found offensive. Visitors experience a resort that reflects this cultural shift and respects the region's indigenous heritage.
The resort is accessible by car and shuttle buses run regularly throughout the area to help visitors move around easily. Gear rental and ski lessons are available on-site during the season, with hotels and restaurants located near the slopes.
The resort is home to the only funitel in the US, an innovative lift system combining high transport capacity with modern engineering. In 2021 it chose to rename itself to respect local indigenous communities, setting it apart from other mountain resorts.
