Hesperidengärten, Historic park and coffee house in St. Johannis district, Nuremberg, Germany.
The Hesperidengärten comprise baroque gardens featuring ornamental sculptures, decorative fountains, and carefully maintained hedge arrangements spread across several thousand square meters in the historic St. Johannis neighborhood.
Originally established in the 17th century by landscape architect Johann Beutler, these gardens served as pleasure grounds for wealthy merchants and nobility, exemplifying baroque garden design principles of the era.
The name references the Hesperides from Greek mythology, daughters of Atlas who guarded golden apples in a paradisiacal garden, symbolizing fertility, abundance, and mythological storytelling traditions.
Entry is free with opening hours from April to October daily from 7:00 AM to 8:00 PM, featuring limited wheelchair accessibility and adjacent dining facilities for visitors.
A modern controllable irrigation system was installed in 2021 to maintain the 3,000 hedge plants and 2,000 square meters of lawn in this mythologically-inspired historic site.
