La Folie Douce Val d'Isère - Tignes, Mountain restaurant in Val-d'Isère, France
La Folie Douce Val d'Isère is a large restaurant complex at 2,400 meters elevation featuring multiple dining areas with both indoor and outdoor seating that can accommodate up to 700 guests. The venue combines different dining concepts at one high-altitude mountain location.
The venue traces its beginnings to 1974 when Luc Reversade opened the first restaurant and established a mountain dining tradition. The concept later expanded into a multi-restaurant operation across different alpine locations.
The La Fruitière section within the complex showcases traditional Alpine dairy farm design and serves regional French mountain cuisine that highlights local ingredients.
Visitors can reach the complex via the Daille gondola, which runs regularly between the valley and the mountain location. The venue provides orientation markers at different entrances and is designed to welcome guests of varying mobility levels and ages.
The operation runs 27 different restaurants across 8 locations throughout the Alps, making it far more than just this single venue. During winter months, the entire operation consumes about 30 tons of cheese, illustrating the massive scale of the food supply needed.
