Tignes - Val d'Isère, Alpine ski domain in Savoie, France

Tignes and Val d'Isère form one large connected ski domain with numerous trails and lift systems. The terrain ranges from gentle runs to steep descents, with villages and accommodations scattered across the valleys at different elevations.

The ski domain developed in the mid-20th century as climbers and skiers began using the valleys regularly. Since then, the villages expanded into full mountain sports destinations with accommodation and dining throughout.

The valleys preserve regional character in their villages and stone buildings. You notice how local architecture reflects mountain living, with heavy wooden beams and sloped roofs built to handle heavy snow.

The resort spans different elevations, with higher areas maintaining snow cover for most of the year. Visitors should prepare for changing weather and steep mountain terrain when moving between the connected valley stations.

A long, wide run connects the highest ski station to one of the lowest villages, allowing skiers to descend continuously for hours on a single trail. This extended descent is well-known among visitors for showcasing the full vertical range of the mountains.
