Lac de la Sassière

Lac de la Sassière is a reservoir situated at roughly 2260 meters elevation in the French Alps, surrounded by mountain peaks and alpine meadows. The water fills a valley enclosed by high summits that offers expansive views in clear weather.

The lake was created in 1959 when a dam was built, transforming the natural valley into a water reserve for the Tignes region. This structure helped secure water supply and energy production for the mountain area.

The lake sits within a protected nature reserve where visitors can observe marmots and alpine flowers along the shoreline. The water and surrounding landscape form an important habitat for the region's wildlife.

A wide trail leads from the Saut parking area to the lake and is accessible for families with several photo stops along the way. The best time to visit is from June through September when snow has melted and trails are easy to walk.

The water of the lake mirrors the surrounding peaks on clear days, creating a striking photographic subject. Marmots are frequent visitors here and can be spotted along the shore during early morning or late afternoon hours.
