Grand Pisaillas Glacier, Alpine glacier in Bonneval-sur-Arc, France
Grand Pisaillas Glacier is an alpine glacier in Bonneval-sur-Arc that stretches across the western face of Aiguille Pers and Pointe du Montet peaks, reaching about 3200 meters in elevation. The site provides access through two lift systems: the Cascade detachable chairlift and the Les Montets drag lift, which reaches 3197 meters.
The glacier was previously known as Glacier du Grand Pissaillas and has shaped the Haute-Maurienne valley through ice movement over many centuries. Its geological history demonstrates how alpine landscapes were formed through glacial processes.
The glacier forms part of Vanoise National Park and shows how people in the French Alps have long lived with their mountain surroundings. Local communities and visitors regard this place as an important feature of their alpine landscape.
The site is best accessible in good weather, and visitors should bring warm clothing and sturdy footwear since the high elevation can be cold and windy. The lift systems operate only under certain conditions, so it is wise to check local conditions before your visit.
This is one of the few places in the French Alps where skiing occurs during summer months from mid-June to mid-July. This unusual summer ski operation makes it a special destination for winter sports enthusiasts during the warmer season.
