Jazz Kitchen
Jazz Kitchen is a restaurant with live jazz performances in Indianapolis, located on North College Avenue in the SoBro neighborhood. The space features warm lighting and an open layout with a dining area facing a performance stage, while the menu combines Southern Cajun flavors with Midwest-style cooking.
The venue opened in 1994 on a street with roots in punk music and alternative performances from the 1970s and 1980s. It grew into a recognized jazz destination and became a key organizer of the Indianapolis Jazz Fest beginning in 2009.
The Jazz Kitchen reflects the city's deep connection to jazz music through its walls decorated with historical photos and posters. Live performances on most nights bring together musicians and audiences who come to experience and celebrate this musical tradition together.
The restaurant is easy to reach by car or on foot from nearby neighborhoods, with parking available in the area. Evening hours are ideal for experiencing live performances, though the space also welcomes daytime visitors for casual dining and takeout.
Starting in 2009, the club partnered with the Indianapolis Jazz Foundation and Owl Studios to organize the city's major Jazz Fest event. This collaboration brought notable musicians from across the nation and internationally to perform in the city.
