Mulagljufur Canyon

Mulagljufur Canyon is a canyon trail near Fjallsárlón Glacier Lagoon in Iceland. It stretches along steep mossy cliffs with multiple waterfalls cascading down from the surrounding mountains, creating a dramatic ravine carved through volcanic rock.

The canyon was unknown to most visitors until recent years, remaining primarily known to local residents before social media brought it wider attention. This recent discovery has transformed it into a sought-after stop for travelers exploring Iceland's more remote areas.

The site represents the raw natural formations of Icelandic landscapes, featuring untouched geological structures shaped by glacial movements and volcanic activities.

Access is via an unmarked gravel road from Route 1 that requires careful navigation. The walk is straightforward but the terrain is uneven and can be slippery when wet, so sturdy footwear and proper weather clothing are important.

The waterfalls in the canyon vary greatly in flow depending on the season and weather, making the place look dramatically different at various times of year. Visitors can witness how water volume changes significantly, especially between dry periods and times of heavy snowmelt.
