Selge Ancient City, Archaeological site in Taurus Mountains, Turkey

Selge is an ancient city in the Taurus Mountains with ruins scattered across a hilltop, featuring a large theater and the remains of several temples. The structures span different periods and reflect how the settlement evolved and grew wealthier over time.

The city was founded in the 4th century BC and developed into a thriving trade hub that prospered for centuries. By the 13th century, residents abandoned the site due to regional instability and it fell into decline.

The theater and marketplace reveal how residents wove entertainment, commerce, and spiritual life into their daily routines. These spaces served as gathering points where people met, exchanged goods, and maintained their community bonds.

The terrain is largely unexcavated, so wear sturdy walking shoes and bring plenty of water. The hillside slopes steadily but pathways are generally clear, making it possible to explore the ruins on your own.

Two Roman bridges from the 2nd century AD stand near the site, including the notable Oluk Bridge spanning a deep river canyon. These structures demonstrate the engineering skill Romans applied to mountainous terrain.
