Köprülü Canyon National Park, Natural park with ancient ruins in Antalya Province, Turkey

Köprülü Canyon is a natural park in Antalya Province where the Köprü River has carved through limestone to create a dramatic gorge with steep walls and flowing water. The site also preserves archaeological ruins and old stone bridges that date back centuries, blending natural and historical elements throughout the landscape.

The region was inhabited in ancient times and contained the Roman city of Selge, whose remains are scattered throughout the park today. Two substantial stone bridges from the 2nd century cross the canyon, demonstrating the engineering skill of that era.

The canyon region has been home to settled communities for centuries, and visitors encounter people who maintain traditional crafts and produce local goods like honey and textiles. These customs shape daily life along the river and create opportunities for meaningful interaction with inhabitants.

The park has designated rafting sections, marked trails for hiking, and parking areas that allow visitors to choose different activities. Wear sturdy footwear since paths can be uneven and bring water, especially on warmer days.

The area is home to one of Asia Minor's largest cypress forests, which grows along the canyon walls and gives the place a distinctive character. Underground springs feed the river system throughout the year, ensuring the water flows steadily even during dry seasons.
