Mount Pantokrator, Mountain peak in Corfu, Greece
Mount Pantokrator is a 906-meter peak in northeastern Corfu topped by a monastery dedicated to Christ Almighty. The summit offers expansive views across the island and toward the Albanian mainland on clear days.
The mountain was called Istone in ancient times before receiving its current name from a monastery established in the 14th century. The monastery was positioned at this high location to create a place of spiritual elevation.
The monastery at the peak draws Orthodox pilgrims who come to pray and experience the spiritual significance of this sacred place. The site remains an active center for religious devotion and personal reflection today.
You can reach the summit by car or on foot from Perithia village, with driving covering most of the distance. Spring and autumn offer the most comfortable weather for exploring the site.
Communication towers at the peak broadcast signals across the Ionian Sea to southern Italy and Albania. This modern equipment shares the summit with the historic monastery in an unexpected blend of old and new.
