Paralia Kalami
Paralia Kalami is a beach near the village of Mylopotamos on the island of Kythira. It features a small cove with deep, clear blue waters surrounded by rocky cliffs and sea caves. The area is largely undeveloped with no shops, restaurants, or loungers, keeping the shoreline natural and secluded.
The beach is located on Kythira, an island with a long maritime past. The seabed contains historical remains, including an old cannon that reflects the region's seafaring heritage and past conflicts or naval activities in these waters.
Access requires effort: drive to the Panagia Orfani monastery where the road ends, then walk about 15 to 20 minutes on an unpaved path, followed by a steep descent using ropes. Bring water, food, and sturdy shoes, as there are no shops or facilities nearby.
Snorkelers can discover an old cannon on the seabed, a remnant from past naval conflicts, hidden in the depths of the clear cove. This unexpected find turns each dive into a small exploration of the area's historical past.
