Plage du Ris

Plage du Ris is a sandy beach in Douarnenez Bay with fine sand and views toward the Rosmeur port and town center. The shore runs along a sheltered bay and provides access to the water with various facility zones nearby.

The beach sits near the legendary location of Ker-Is, the mythical submerged city from ancient Breton lore that supposedly disappeared into the sea. Over centuries, the bay became a working fishing port before transforming into the modern seaside destination it is today.

The wooden cabins perched on the raised esplanade give the beach a distinctly Breton character that shapes how locals and visitors experience the waterfront. This architectural style is typical of seaside resorts in this region and remains part of daily life here.

Swimming is supervised from July to August with monitored zones. Facilities for visitors with disabilities are available along the esplanade, and the wooden cabins on the upper level serve as good reference points for navigation.

Winter brings strong waves that attract surfers to these waters, while summer offers calm conditions perfect for families. The bay changes completely depending on the season, offering different experiences throughout the year.
