Lago Martianez

Lago Martianez is a water park and leisure complex in Puerto de la Cruz featuring multiple swimming pools, artificial lakes, and gardens overlooking the Atlantic Ocean. The facility includes different pool areas of varying depths, planted sections with native vegetation, and tiered terraces arranged across the hillside.

This leisure complex was designed and built in the 1970s as a modern recreational project for the northern coast of Tenerife. The creator integrated local building traditions and volcanic materials into the design, establishing it as a new type of public space for the region.

The site is a gathering place where locals and visitors relax together, blending water recreation with the surrounding natural landscape. Its design reflects Canarian building traditions and shows how people adapt leisure spaces to volcanic terrain.

The complex is accessible from the town center and offers both shaded areas and open spaces where visitors can choose based on the weather. Changing rooms, food stands, and shops are distributed throughout the different levels, making it convenient for a full day visit.

The design includes seawater pools alongside freshwater basins, creating a direct connection to the ocean visible from the upper terraces. This combination of salt and fresh water is uncommon and distinguishes it from typical recreation parks elsewhere.
