Delta du Fango Beach

Delta du Fango Beach is a pebble shore where the Fango River meets the Mediterranean coast. The strand consists of smooth stones washed by seawater, while the river's freshwater influence still marks the water and landscape.

The delta gained UNESCO biosphere reserve status in 1977 due to its ecological value and biodiversity. This recognition marked a turning point in protecting the landscape and its natural systems.

The river has shaped local life for generations, with communities connected to water and its resources for survival and livelihood. Visitors can still observe fishing boats working with traditional methods that reflect how people have always related to this delta landscape.

The beach is easiest to reach at high tide, with gentle sloping access paths to the water that are straightforward to navigate. During warmer months, local outfitters provide equipment for water activities, making a visit more accessible.

Here freshwater from the river mixes with Mediterranean salt water, creating two distinct water environments in one place. This mixing zone supports plant and animal life found nowhere else in the region.
