Monte Cintu, Mountain summit in Calenzana, Corsica, France
Monte Cintu is Corsica's highest peak, rising to about 2,700 meters and dominating the island's skyline. The route starts at Asco-Stagnu ski station and follows marked paths and rocky terrain to the summit.
The first recorded ascent took place in 1882 when a group led by mountaineer Edouard Rochat reached the summit. This early climb marked the beginning of the mountain's documented mountaineering history.
The mountain draws hikers who follow the marked GR20 trails and rest at mountain shelters along the way. This network of paths and shelters shapes how visitors experience the Corsican mountains and creates a strong hiking culture in the region.
The climb requires good footwear and stamina, as you ascend about 6 kilometers on rocky paths gaining significant elevation. Starting early and checking weather conditions beforehand helps ensure safe conditions and time to return before dark.
On clear days from the summit, you can see an expansive view stretching hundreds of kilometers across the landscape. Distant mountain ranges from the mainland and peaks from Italy are visible on the horizon, making the geographical position of this place remarkable.
