Plage de l'Arinella, Beach in Bastia, Corsica, France
Plage de l'Arinella is the largest sandy beach in the city of Bastia, situated just south of the city center along the shore. The sand is fine with scattered pebbles, and from the waterline you can see the rooftops of Bastia with the surrounding mountains rising behind them.
The coastal strip south of Bastia was long left undeveloped and used mainly as a passage to the sea by local fishermen and traders. During the 20th century, the area was gradually shaped into a public space for the city's residents.
The beach is a popular spot for people from Bastia who come here after work or on weekends to swim or sit by the water. Right next to the sand, a skate park and play areas for children make this a natural meeting point for families.
The beach is within walking distance of central Bastia and has nearby parking as well as bus connections during the season. Public showers and restrooms are available on site, and lifeguards are present during the summer months.
The beach is entirely smoke-free, which is still rare on the island. It also carries the Handiplage label, which means visitors with mobility limitations can use adapted equipment to enter the water directly, not just reach the shoreline.
