Plateau du Revard, Mountain summit in Saint-Offenge-Dessus, France.
Plateau du Revard is a broad mountainous terrain at around 1438 meters elevation, situated between higher peaks and spreading across considerable space. The views extend across surrounding mountain ranges and toward Lake Bourget.
The upper elevations were already inhabited and documented during the 1700s, with records showing noble holdings in the area. Over time, the region shifted from aristocratic control to becoming a center of alpine farming and grazing.
Alpine pastures dot the plateau and are still used for grazing, shaping the landscape with traditional stone chalets and open meadows. These spaces reflect how mountain communities have adapted to life at elevation over centuries.
Access reaches the plateau from a parking area near the Les Combes hamlet, just before Saint-Offenge-Dessus, with signage marking the way for hikers. The best visiting season runs from spring through fall when trails are most walkable and weather is favorable.
The plateau contains protected peat bogs and wind channels that form distinct microclimates supporting specialized alpine plants and rock formations. These conditions create pockets where visitors can observe ecological features rarely seen in other mountain areas.
