Bassins de Lumières, Digital art center in Bordeaux, France
Bassins de Lumières is an arts center in Bordeaux located within four chambers of a former submarine base. The space uses around 12,000 square meters of projection surfaces with numerous video projectors to create large-scale digital art exhibitions.
The center opened in 2020 as an arts venue inside a former military facility from World War II. Converting the submarine base into an exhibition space made it the world's largest digital art gallery.
The exhibitions present works by famous artists through vast projections on the concrete surfaces and water mirrors of the space. Visitors watch as classical masterpieces come to life through digital technology.
Visitors should allow plenty of time to explore all four chambers, as the exhibitions are complex and visually intense. The interior can be cool, so dressing in layers is recommended for comfort during your visit.
The venue features four pools where digital artworks are reflected on the water surfaces, creating mirror effects. These pools double the visual experience by multiplying projections and creating a spatial depth that surrounds the viewer.
