Saalbau Essen, Concert hall in Essen, Germany

The Saalbau features wood-paneled walls, warm-colored seating, and a blue ceiling in the Alfried Krupp Hall, which spans 21 meters in height.

Richard Strauss conducted the opening concert in 1904, and Gustav Mahler premiered his 6th Symphony in 1906 before its destruction during World War II.

The Essen Philharmonic Orchestra performs regular concerts in this venue, which underwent a complete renovation between 2002 and 2004 for 75 million euros.

The main concert hall accommodates 1,900 visitors and includes an adjustable acoustic sail weighing 18 tons that adapts to different performance types.

The building contains three themed club rooms named after composers Richard Strauss, Gustav Mahler, and Max Reger, along with three separate colored halls.
