Ellen Cove Jetty

Ellen Cove Jetty is a wooden structure in Middleton Beach that extends into King George Sound, supported by reinforced concrete piles with timber decking throughout. The jetty reaches approximately 100 meters into the water and connects swimmers and anglers to deeper areas.

The structure was built in 1900 as a supply dock for large vessels unable to enter Princess Royal Harbour. It was significantly rebuilt in 1968 and transformed into a public recreation facility for community use.

Locals and visitors use the jetty regularly for relaxing and picnicking while watching the bay. It serves as a place where people connect with the marine environment in their daily routines.

The site is easily accessible with clear paths suitable for most visitors and straightforward navigation around the structure. Summer months offer the best conditions for fishing and swimming, while the shark barrier provides security for water users year-round.

A shark barrier was installed in 2016 and encircles the waters around the jetty, creating a protected swimming zone for beach visitors. This safety measure is a key feature for anyone planning to swim in these Australian waters.
