Lot 1 Fishery Bay

Lot 1 Fishery Bay is a sand beach on the lower Eyre Peninsula coast protected by tall headlands on both sides. The shoreline stretches nearly 950 meters with a gentle slope toward the water, and the surrounding cliffs rise between 20 to 40 meters above the sand.

Eastern rocks at the site hold remains of a 19th-century whaling station, showing how early European settlers used this coastline. The ruins reflect a period when this area was part of South Australia's maritime extraction industries.

The Indigenous communities of Lower Eyre Peninsula maintained strong connections to this coastline, utilizing its marine resources across generations.

Access to the beach requires a four-wheel-drive vehicle due to the dirt road approach, so plan accordingly if you do not have suitable transportation. Toilet facilities are located near the entrance, making it convenient to prepare before heading onto the sand.

The beach regularly experiences two distinct rips created by wave interactions with the protective headlands. When wave activity increases, additional permanent rips form along the cliffs, adding a dynamic element that changes the water conditions throughout the day.
