Golf de la presqu'île du Cotentin, Golf course in Fontenay-sur-Mer, France
Golf de la presqu'île du Cotentin is an 18-hole course stretching across about 5800 meters through coastal and inland terrain. The layout combines seaside links holes with sections through Norman hedgerows and marshland areas.
Architect Yves Bureau designed this course in 1972, integrating the natural landscape of Normandy's coastline with surrounding marshlands. The creation coincided with growing interest in golf courses that worked with rather than against local terrain.
The course overlooks the Vauban Towers and Tatihou Island, recognized UNESCO World Heritage sites in the Bay of Saint-Vaast. These structures form part of the local identity and frame the playing experience with layers of regional history.
The course is open daily for play and welcomes golfers of varying skill levels. Visitors should prepare for coastal wind conditions and bring appropriate equipment for both exposed seaside holes and more sheltered inland sections.
The course splits into two distinct experiences: nine holes along the shoreline with links-style conditions and nine holes through Norman hedgerow countryside. This contrast between open coast and enclosed inland green creates a varied day of play.
