Golf de Saumane , Golf course in Saumane-de-Vaucluse, France.
Golf de Saumane is an 18-hole course stretching 6,099 meters (20,013 feet) from the white tees with 38 bunkers woven throughout its layout in the Vaucluse hills. The design incorporates the existing Canal de Carpentras and natural rocky slopes as key playing features.
The course was designed by Jean Garaïalde in 1989, thoughtfully integrating the existing Canal de Carpentras and natural rock formations into the playing environment. This approach shows how the designer worked with the landscape rather than against it.
The layout reflects the local Provençal character through its plantings of pine trees, olive groves, and aromatic herbs like rosemary and lavender that shape the playing experience. This vegetation ties the course to the surrounding countryside and Mediterranean identity of the region.
The course sits on hilly terrain, so sturdy footwear and drinking water are advisable, especially during warm weather. The walks between holes can be steep at times, so visitors should be prepared for uneven ground.
Golfers can see three mountain ranges during their round: the Luberon, Monts de Vaucluse, and Alpilles, placing the course within a dramatic natural setting. Water features are woven throughout the layout, adding challenge and visual interest to nearly every hole.
