The Kinderboerderij d'Oude Smelterij spans 4.5 hectares with farm animals, greenhouses, vegetable gardens, fruit orchards, beehives, and demonstration areas for composting.
The facility transformed into a social economy project through a partnership between the city of Torhout and De Proeftuin vzw to create employment opportunities.
The farm hosts educational programs where students learn about agricultural practices, food preparation, and sustainable farming methods throughout the academic year.
Visitors can access the farm Monday through Friday from 9:00 to 17:00 and weekends from 10:00 to 17:00, with payments accepted in cash or Bancontact.
The property includes two farm huts and serves as the starting point for the 7.5-kilometer Moereveld walking route connecting to the Bruges countryside network.
