La forêt des Singes

La Forêt des Singes is a primate park in Rocamadour where roughly 150 Barbary macaques roam across forested ground. The animals move freely throughout designated pathways while visitors follow along to watch them in their natural setting.

The park opened in 1998 as a European effort to protect and study Barbary macaques from North African mountain regions. This initiative emerged from concerns about the species' survival in the wild.

The park exists as a space where visitors encounter monkeys living in family groups and social structures rather than in isolated enclosures. The animals shape the daily rhythm of the place through their movements and interactions with one another throughout the forest.

Wear sturdy shoes because the pathways wind through forest ground that can become slippery in wet conditions. Follow the staff's directions carefully and avoid feeding the animals, as this keeps both visitors and monkeys safe.
