Northumberland Zoo, Animal park in Felton, United Kingdom.
Northumberland Zoo is a zoo in Felton, Northumberland, home to a wide range of animal species spread across open grounds. The collection runs from small creatures like harvest mice to larger ones such as snow leopards and arctic foxes.
The site began in 2009 as a small operation with a tearoom, poultry, and farm animals. It grew into Eshottheugh Animal Park before taking its current name in 2018.
The zoo serves as a place where visitors can observe animal care in action and directly see the commitment to species protection. The enclosures are designed so people can get close to the animals while watching their natural behaviors.
The grounds are explored on foot, so sturdy shoes are a good idea, especially in wet weather. The zoo is open daily, and a visit can comfortably fit into half a day.
The zoo runs one of only 3 breeding programs in the world for Livingstone's fruit bats, a rare species found in the Comoros Islands. Without programs like this one, the species would have very few safeguards for its survival.
