Altalumina, Night theme park in Les Gets, France
Altalumina is a nighttime forest experience in Les Gets featuring a one-kilometer pathway with synchronized light displays, music, and visual effects at regular stations. The route runs continuously throughout the year and guides visitors through different scenes with varying lighting and audio arrangements.
The attraction was created as the first illuminated night walk in European mountain resorts, introducing a new form of entertainment to the French Alps region. The concept emerged from a desire to make the forest experiential after dark while merging art and technology.
Visitors follow the story of a traveling musician exploring mountain landscapes from a hot air balloon, with musical elements weaving into natural forest sounds. The installation creates moments where the audience participates directly in the unfolding narrative.
Visits typically take place between 6 PM and 11 PM and require advance online booking as there is no on-site ticket office. Comfortable walking shoes are recommended for the forest pathway, and checking the weather forecast is helpful since the experience is mostly outdoors.
The light and sound installation transforms musical notes into visible light elements, making the audio component of the experience visually perceptible. This creates a rare merging of two senses that you typically do not find in conventional theme parks.
