Sprookjesbos Valkenburg, Family theme park in Valkenburg aan de Geul, Netherlands
Sprookjesbos Valkenburg is a theme park on the Heunsberg hillside that spans multiple hectares with playground equipment and fairy tale attractions scattered throughout the forested area. The site features dining options at Restaurant Grietje and Restaurant de Boshut, along with a gift shop called Het Tussendoortje.
The park was founded in 1950 by Bruno Bruck as a gift for his daughter, with fairy tale scenes originally crafted from plaster and stone figures. These early artworks created by art students remain the heart of the site today.
The park displays traditional fairy tales through outdoor scenes, including Little Red Riding Hood, Hansel and Gretel, and the Wolf and Seven Little Goats. These stories are scattered throughout the forest and invite visitors to discover them while walking.
The park is located on a hillside and requires walking through forest paths to see all attractions. It is advisable to wear comfortable shoes and allow time to explore, as the site is spread out and is explored mainly on foot.
Natural limestone caves lie beneath the park, which visitors can explore independently. These underground passages add an unexpected dimension to the experience and combine fairy tale adventure with real cave exploration.
