The Musée de la Musique Mouassine is a museum in Marrakesh's Mouassine neighborhood dedicated to Moroccan musical traditions and instruments. Housed in a restored townhouse from the 16th or 17th century, it features decorated walls, a central courtyard, and a rooftop terrace.
The building belonged to the Mellakh family for over two centuries, making it a record of local family life in the medina. After a thorough restoration, it was transformed into a museum dedicated to Morocco's musical history.
On several evenings each week, the museum hosts live concerts of Andalusian music, Gnaoua rhythms, and Amazigh songs in a room called the douiria. Visitors sit close to the musicians, making the experience feel personal and direct.
The museum sits a short walk from Jemaa el-Fna, tucked into the narrow lanes of the Mouassine neighborhood. Concerts take place on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays and require advance booking as seats are limited.
The museum holds a photo collection taken between 1962 and 1970 showing everyday life in Morocco during a period of deep change. These images were donated by Charles and Paulette Henneghien, a couple who lived in Morocco at the time and gave their personal archive to the museum.
