Medina of Marrakesh

The Medina extends over 16 kilometers with defensive walls containing gates, towers, and traditional houses arranged along narrow, winding streets and passages.

Established in 1071 by Youssef ben Tachfin, this fortified settlement became the capital of the Almoravid Empire and developed into a major trading center.

The central Djemaa El Fna square transforms daily with snake charmers, storytellers, musicians, and food vendors gathering to maintain centuries-old traditions.

Navigation through the labyrinth of streets requires a local guide or digital map, as the countless alleyways and similar-looking buildings create a complex maze.

The Medina contains 19 distinct souks, each dedicated to specific crafts such as leather, metalwork, textiles, and spices arranged in traditional guild systems.
