Anguilles Sacrées aux Yeux Bleues

The Anguilles Sacrées aux Yeux Bleues are freshwater eels living in a stream that crosses the coastal road of Huahine island. These creatures can reach up to 2 meters in length and display distinctly bright blue eyes that become even more striking as they approach visitors.

These eels connect to ancient legends of the island, particularly the story of Princess Hina, daughter of the sun and moon. Local traditions tell of her escape from an eel king and the mystical bond she created with these waters.
