Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora, Luxury seaside resort on Motu Tehotu, French Polynesia
Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora is a seaside resort on Motu Tehotu, a private islet in the lagoon of Bora Bora in French Polynesia, facing Mount Otemanu. The property comprises overwater bungalows and beachfront villas linked by wooden walkways with direct access to the shallow lagoon waters.
The resort opened in the early 2000s on a previously uninhabited motu once visited only by fishermen and coconut palm planters. Its construction used materials such as pandanus leaves and coconut wood, echoing traditional Polynesian building methods.
The bungalows and villas carry Tahitian names drawn from nature and the sea, while staff members often wear pareos during their work. At mealtimes, local ingredients such as fafa leaves, raw tuna and coconut milk appear on the menu, reflecting the flavors of the islands.
Visitors travel to Faa'a International Airport in Tahiti and then take a domestic flight to Bora Bora, followed by a boat ride to the motu. The accommodations spread along the lagoon, with some closer to the main beach and others farther out over the water.
The resort runs a protected area in the lagoon where marine biologists offer tours and discuss fish, rays and coral reefs. Visitors can watch as coral fragments are grown and later replanted in the lagoon.
