Matira Beach

Matira Beach extends along one mile of white sand coastline, bordered by palm trees and offering clear views across the turquoise lagoon waters.

The beach received its name from a whaleboat that arrived in Polynesia during 1790, marking the beginning of increased maritime activity in the region.

The beach functions as the final destination for the Hawaiki Nui va'a race, a traditional outrigger canoe competition central to Polynesian water sports.

Visitors can access water sports equipment rentals, including paddleboards and kayaks, while several restaurants and cafes line the adjacent shoreline.

The location allows swimmers to wade between two separate bodies of water, as the beach connects the lagoon on one side to the ocean on the other.
