Il Volo dell'Angelo
Il Volo dell'Angelo is a zip line between the villages of Castelmezzano and Pietrapertosa in the Lucane Dolomites, set among dramatic rock spires. The ride takes visitors suspended on a steel cable across the open landscape between the two settlements, covering a distance of more than 1,400 meters (4,600 feet) with speeds reaching up to 120 km/h (75 mph).
The villages of Castelmezzano and Pietrapertosa have been inhabited for many centuries, with their architecture reflecting ancient settlement patterns in this mountainous region. The zip line project was developed in the 2000s to bring tourism to this remote area and make the villages more accessible to visitors.
The two villages of Castelmezzano and Pietrapertosa have been home to communities for centuries, with houses built traditionally into the rocky landscape. The way residents have adapted their settlements to the steep terrain shows how daily life has always been shaped by the surrounding stone cliffs and valleys.
Visitors must purchase tickets online and can complete two flights in each direction, with the option to choose when to return. Shuttles are provided from the start locations to the village, and visitors should wear comfortable clothes since accessing the launch points involves a short walk.
The zip line project emerged as an initiative to revitalize the economy of these remote mountain villages and has become one of the most popular adventure activities in the region. Many visitors choose this location for special moments such as marriage proposals or family celebrations.
