Preacher’s Cave, Cave entrance near Tay Bay Beach, Bahamas.
The limestone cave features natural openings in its ceiling that allow sunlight to filter through, creating light patterns on the ground surface.
In 1647, seventy Puritans found refuge in this cave after their ship wrecked on Devil's Backbone Reef during their journey from Bermuda.
The settlers established a stone pulpit inside the cave and conducted religious services, marking the first organized Protestant worship in the Bahamas.
The cave sits 10 miles from North Eleuthera Airport, with a paved road leading to the entrance and parking facilities for visitors.
Archaeological excavations revealed remains of both Puritan settlers and Lucayan-Taino Indians, indicating centuries of human presence in the cave.
