Viaducto del Saladillo, Railway bridge in El Cadillal, Argentina.
Viaducto del Saladillo is a railway bridge in the El Cadillal region that spans across the valley with a series of sturdy stone pillars supporting its length. The structure displays solid masonry construction typical of late 19th-century railway engineering.
Construction began in 1881 under engineer Cristóbal Giagnoni and finished in 1884 as part of the Central North Railway expansion into the region. The bridge operated as a vital transport link until structural damage led to its closure in 1927.
The bridge received National Historic Monument status in July 2000, marking its significance in Argentina's transportation and architectural legacy.
The site sits about 27 kilometers from San Miguel de Tucumán and can be reached via a dirt road that connects to National Route 9. Visitors should wear sturdy shoes as the terrain is uneven and access paths can be rough.
The construction consumed around six million bricks, and an adjacent tunnel was built alongside the bridge to carry the railway through the area. This paired structure demonstrates the technical effort invested in this section of the railway line.
