Batthyány-Familiengruft

This burial vault extends in a cross shape beneath the Franciscan church, featuring a classicist main portal adorned with death angel sculptures and faith figures.

Count Adam Batthyány established the burial vault under the monastery church in the mid-17th century, which continues to serve as the family's final resting place.

The vault contains over 100 sarcophagi and heart urns, including the marble sarcophagi of Prince Ladislaus and the richly decorated lead sarcophagus of Field Marshal Karl Joseph.

Access to the burial vault requires advance registration through the Franciscan monastery, with guided tours available by contacting the parish office at Franziskanerplatz 1.

The vault ranks as Austria's second-largest family crypt after Vienna's Imperial Crypt in terms of size, yet holds the highest number of interments nationwide.
