Schloss Draskovich, Noble castle in Güssing, Austria
Schloss Draskovich is a classical-style castle with a central section featuring half-columns topped with Ionic capitals and symmetrical wings on either side. The three-story structure displays five window bays on each flank, creating a balanced and spread-out appearance.
The castle was built around 1804 and initially served the Batthyány noble family as a summer retreat. It later passed to the Draskovich family, who gave it their name.
The chapel inside holds a five-panel altarpiece from the 15th century that survives nowhere else in the region. You can see this religious artwork displayed in its original setting.
The castle sits 200 meters beyond the medieval fortifications and is surrounded by an 8-hectare green area. This setting gives you room to walk around and explore the grounds at a relaxed pace.
The western facade displays a double coat of arms belonging to both the Batthyány and Draskovich families beneath a princely crown. This paired heraldry makes visible the connection between the two noble houses linked to the castle.
