Residential building 'Judengebäude', Protected residential building in Güssing, Austria
The Judengebäude is a three-story residential building in Güssing with a protected facade facing the street. The structure features pilasters on its front side and two-story columned arcades opening onto the eastern courtyard.
The building was constructed around 1740 as a private residence and later adopted by the local Jewish community starting in 1829. It served this community as both a home and a place of business for generations.
The building stands among 27 protected monuments in Güssing, contributing to the architectural heritage of this Burgenland district capital.
The house is located on P. Gratian Leser-Straße 15 in central Güssing and is easily visible from the street. The building remains inhabited and is maintained as an important landmark of the town.
The building has varying heights depending on its side: it rises three stories facing the marketplace but only two stories on other facades. This asymmetry developed from the original site conditions and the need to address the market plaza layout.
