Goulburn Valley Highway, National highway in Victoria, Australia.
The Goulburn Valley Highway is a regional road in Victoria, Australia, running from Tocumwal on the Murray River in the north to Eildon in the south. It passes through several towns, including Shepparton and Seymour, linking the flat northern plains with the hill country further south.
The road was developed in the early 20th century as part of a broader effort to connect rural Victoria. Certain sections were granted State Highway status in 1946 and 1947.
The route passes through farming communities where rural villages and agricultural properties shape daily life across the region. The connection between these settlements shows how people depend on this link for work, trade, and gathering.
The road is in good condition and straightforward to drive with any standard vehicle. The southern stretch near Eildon becomes hillier, so allow extra time if you are heading in that direction.
The highway changes its official route number depending on which section you are driving, making it one of the few roads in Victoria signed under more than one designation along its length. A driver completing the full route will pass through several of these changes without ever leaving the road.
