Wild Cat Conservation Centre, Wildlife conservation sanctuary in Wilberforce, New South Wales, Australia
The Wild Cat Conservation Centre is a sanctuary for smaller wild cat species set on about 10 hectares of land northeast of Sydney. Five different species live there, including Caracal, Cheetah, Clouded Leopard, Fishing Cat, and Serval.
The centre was founded in 2016 to address a gap in wild cat protection, as most international funding at that time focused on just seven large species. This beginning marked the start of specialized work for smaller, overlooked species.
The centre demonstrates how endangered wild cat species are protected through hands-on daily care and observation. Visitors can see how the work here connects to broader global conservation efforts across multiple countries.
Visitors can book private guided tours to observe the animals, best done with advance planning. The property is relatively small, so a tour typically takes between one and two hours.
The centre houses the only four Clouded Leopards in Australasia, making them exceptionally rare in the region. In March 2020, the first successful Caracal breeding achievement in Australia also occurred here.
