Crocosaurus Cove, Reptile zoo in Darwin, Australia
Crocosaurus Cove is a reptile facility located in central Darwin featuring indoor and outdoor enclosures. The site houses multiple large areas for different crocodile species plus a major freshwater tank system populated with fish and other water animals.
The facility opened in 2008 and quickly became home to several notable crocodiles from the region. Since then it has developed into a recognized place for the care and display of these animals in Darwin.
The place is named after Burt, one of Australia's most famous crocodiles that appeared in films. Visitors get a sense of how this animal became part of the region's identity.
Wear comfortable shoes and allow plenty of time to explore both sections since pathways are spread across indoor and outdoor areas. Arriving early in the day is worthwhile, as it is less crowded and animals tend to be more active.
The site houses the world's only public collection of Oenpelli pythons, a rare snake species from Northern Territory. These large snakes are difficult to spot in the wild and normally stay hidden, making this one of the few places to see them.
